ARE YOU PRETENDING EVERYTHING IS FINE, UNABLE TO ADMIT YOU DON’T HAVE THE ANSWERS?
I get it. As an entrepreneur, I felt isolated with no one to talk to. I wasn’t having as much fun building my businesses because of the constant pressures. I realized I checked all these boxes (read on to find out why):
- ✓ Exhausted, but pretending everything was fine
- ✓ Afraid to admit I didn’t know how to do some things
- ✓ Perturbed by the incompetence of others
- ✓ In pain. My shoulders hurt—a LOT—and not from working out
- ✓ Avoiding difficult conversations
- ✓ Did everything because it was faster than explaining it to others
Which boxes do you check?
I was frequently sidetracked by new and exciting projects, or caught up in the daily firestorms, easily losing sight of my business’s unique objectives critical to its success.
I was a leader in the way of my own path. Ironically, I learned what is in the way IS the way.
I spent most of my life believing “the way” was the next business, house, vacation. I opened a ladies dress shop at 18, 100 miles from anywhere I had ever lived. After selling it, I set off to explore the world and start other businesses. I learned the most about myself—for better and worse—after co-founding a third business with my “wasband” (points for getting the made-up word).
After a significant health scare, I was genuinely worried I would put myself into the ground before I got to live the life I imagined.
Then my entrepreneur dad died at age 60. That focused my attention!
I had a heart-to-heart with myself (yes, knees were involved), and made the decision to refocus on things only I could influence. I made a commitment to quit suffering (which, by the way, was mostly to myself on the inside … outside I pretended I was just fine). This decision led to a radical reinvention in my relationships, business, and life.
But I could not possibly have done it all alone. I needed provocation, challenge, and disruption to reinvent myself. So I sought out extraordinary coaches who guided me in changing the behaviors and habits that had initially led me to success, but became obstacles as I tried to reach the next level.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE NOW?
Today, I am focused on my vision to do good, work less, be more. I have the tools and the ability to manage my time to achieve the results that I want. Occasionally, I still slip back into those “boxes”—but now I can get out much faster.
I HAVE LOTS OF TIME FOR FUN STUFF TOO!
Have dance shoes, will dance everywhere. Most recently, I danced tango in Vienna, Prague, Argentina, Paris, Warsaw, Italy, and London. My love of the Argentine Tango has inspired my signature workshops, Tango in the boardroom, stay tuned for the launch date!
Sometimes I dance tango with my friends until the sun comes up, meeting my neighbors as they leave for work.
Have beach cruiser, will ride everywhere—often to meet my chill clients.
During my reinvention, I realized I wanted to do this transformative work with others too, so I dedicated several years to intensive coach training. That training is where I aligned my work with my purpose and passion: To influence for good. There are many things I care about and I love to put events together to build community around some of my most passionate causes.
